The Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company was created by founder Dawn Greene in 1989. Under the Artistic direction of June Smith, this regional nonprofit (501)(c)(3) educational organization provides an educational alternative for dance students in the Metropolitan Detroit area who are interested in the performance of ballet. The Company offers local communities a high quality artistic experience for performers and audiences through dance productions.
PCBC features the talents or over 60 talented dancers from all over Michigan. Member dancers participate in this activity in addition to a regular study of dance at their chosen dance studio. Members are auditioned for placement within the company and for roles in the ballets. The participants are given the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a ballet company atmosphere. Open Auditions for all dancers are held in late August/early September each year.
The Ballet company has many ballets in its repertoire. The Company has performed standards such as Copp’elia, Paquita, Les Sylphides, Peter and the World and The Seasonal classic, Nutcracker. Our Company has proudly been presenting this Holiday favorite since 1990.The company has also commissioned choreographers to set Symphonic Colors and Dracula. Founder Dawn Greene has also set the ballets Water Colors and Electric Horseman.
The PCBC runs on the work of dedicated volunteers. All funds /donations received are used to mount the company productions. This includes props, backdrops, costumes, headpieces, shoes, etc. No funds are used for salaries or disbursements. For the Directors, this Company is a labor of love dedicated to the dancers, the communities and the art of ballet. The quality of this Company is a tribute to the commitment of the dancers, volunteers and Directors. You can be a part of this artistic venture too! Won’t you join us?

June Smith artistic director
June Smith began her dance training in the Detroit area and was fortunate to work with many instructors, including her mother, in many different styles of ballet. She was a soloist with the Downriver Civic Ballet and the Detroit City Ballet. As an original member of the Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company she performed many roles in numerous ballets. June is now honored to hold the position of Artistic Director of the Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company. The Cecchetti Method of Ballet has been a great influence in her career of dancing and teaching. She holds the Teachers Diploma Certificate and travels around the country as an Examiner and Liaison Officer. Additionally, she is the National Registrar and a member of the Executive Board of the Cecchetti Council of America. June is very proud to continually watch new accomplishments of her children and grandchildren following in the family love of dance.
Hilari Van Bynen assistant Director
Hilari has been dancing since the age of two with extensive training in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical & Hip Hop. She has perfomred in many lead roles with the Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company/Plymouth Symphone, such as Clara, Dew Drop Fairy and Snow Princess, along with others. She is now the Assistant Articstic Director of the Plymouth Canton Ballet Compnay, and is proud to be passing on the Nutcracker experience to a new generation. Hilari attended multiple summer ballet intensive programs with the Cecchetti Council of America at Hope College. She also performed at the Detroit Opera House in the Metropolitan Ballet Company's "Mid Summer's Night Dream" as the lead child role, the Indian Boy. After growing up in the studio, as her whole family taught or still teaches dance. Hilari believes she has found her true calling as a teacher and Choreographer! She has been teaching deance since 1998, with student winning award in both technique and choreography.
