The Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company was created by founder Dawn Greene in 1989. Under the Artistic direction of June Smith, this regional nonprofit (501)(c)(3) educational organization provides an educational alternative for dance students in the Metropolitan Detroit area who are interested in the performance of ballet. The Company offers local communities a high quality artistic experience for performers and audiences through dance productions.
PCBC features the talents or over 60 talented dancers from all over Michigan. Member dancers participate in this activity in addition to a regular study of dance at their chosen dance studio. Members are auditioned for placement within the company and for roles in the ballets. The participants are given the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a ballet company atmosphere. Open Auditions for all dancers are held in late August/early September each year.
The Ballet company has many ballets in its repertoire. The Company has performed standards such as Copp’elia, Paquita, Les Sylphides, Peter and the World and The Seasonal classic, Nutcracker. Our Company has proudly been presenting this Holiday favorite since 1990.The company has also commissioned choreographers to set Symphonic Colors and Dracula. Founder Dawn Greene has also set the ballets Water Colors and Electric Horseman.
The PCBC runs on the work of dedicated volunteers. All funds /donations received are used to mount the company productions. This includes props, backdrops, costumes, headpieces, shoes, etc. No funds are used for salaries or disbursements. For the Directors, this Company is a labor of love dedicated to the dancers, the communities and the art of ballet. The quality of this Company is a tribute to the commitment of the dancers, volunteers and Directors. You can be a part of this artistic venture too! Won’t you join us?
