The Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company was founded by Dawn Greene in 1989 and under the direction of her daughter, June Smith aided by her grand daughter, Hilari Van Bynum. The PCBC is a regional nonprofit (501)(c)(3) educational organization. The Company has been formed as an educational alternative for dance students in the Metropolitan Detroit area who are interested in the performance of ballet. Also, the Company offers local communities a high quality artistic experience for performers and audiences through dance productions.
The Company features up to 50 talented dancers from all over Michigan. Member dancers participate in this activity in addition to a regular study of dance at their chosen dance studio. Members are auditioned for placement within the company and for roles in the ballets. In this respect, the participants are given the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a ballet company atmosphere.
The PCBC has many ballets in its repertoire. The Company performs standards such as Coppélia, Paquita, Les Sylphides, Peter and the Wolf and the Nutcracker. The PCBC has performed the Nutcracker annually since 1990. The Company has also commissioned choreographers to set Symphonic Colors and Dracula. Dawn Greene has also set the ballets Water Colors, Electric Horseman,
